Speaker: Presented by Linda M. Topoleski, Vice President for Workforce Operations and Programs at the Allegheny Conference on Community Development

Over the next decade the workforce in the Pittsburgh Region will be characterized by large scale retirements, slow population growth and a substantial workforce shortfall. Rapid shifts in the skills required by technological innovation will also provide challenges for employers.

The Allegheny Conference on Community Development undertook the project of documenting these workforce challenges and reporting their findings to the region’s public and private sectors in their “Inflection Point” report. The report issued in 2016 and subsequently updated in 2017-2018 was intended to put the region on notice, initiate conversation and spur action that would help us deal with the workforce challenges and provide for a globally competitive workforce.

Our speaker will address the report’s findings and discuss collaborative efforts needed by employers, educators, civic leaders and concerned citizens to confront and solve these challenges.

Linda Topoleski serves as Vice President for Workforce Operations and Programs at the Allegheny Conference on Community Development. In her role, Linda directs talent attraction and retention initiatives, including the ImaginePittsburgh.com regional jobs portal, and is involved in programs to better align the education and training pipeline to meet demand. She has been recognized nationally and regionally with public relations and advertising industry awards, including the CIPRA (Creativity in Public Relations), the Edward L. Bernays Award for Excellence in Public Relations, the Public Relations Society of America-Pittsburgh Renaissance Awards, and ADDY Awards for her role in directing regional and national advertising programs.
