As the local chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators, the PLAA offers a range of benefits of membership, including:
Throughout the year, PLAA offers timely and topically relevant educational opportunities for our members. If you are in a management position in a private law firm or the legal department of a corporation or non-profit organization, PLAA offers legal specific educational and training opportunities. Programs range from nuts and bolts sessions on law firm profitability, policies and practices to leadership training and planning in legal organizations.
The PLAA maintains an active Listserve where you can post questions regarding specific business partners, procedures or policies and tap the collective knowledge of other legal professionals who have “been there, done that.” Bimonthly membership meetings are another excellent opportunity to meet with peers and discuss problems and solutions impacting law firms and companies in the region.
The PLAA annually conducts a compensation and benefits survey of member firms and companies and makes the results available for free to participants. The survey results constitute the single, best source of information regarding compensation and benefits in the region’s law firms and corporate legal departments and can prove helpful in benchmarking everything from staff ratios, to legal secretary salary ranges based on experience, to expected productivity levels and starting salaries of attorneys or paralegals.
Business Partnership Program
The PLAA builds and cultivates relationships with business partners devoted to supporting the needs of law firms. Annually, the organization holds a business partner showcase using a tradeshow format to give business partners and legal professionals an opportunity to explore the many services and talents of the businesses catering to the needs of law firms and corporate legal departments. The organization also holds a couple social events to introduce administrators and business partners committed to supporting the business of law firms.
Throughout the year members have opportunities to participate in a range of community service projects supported by the organization. These charitable endeavors raise the profile and respect of lawyers, law firms and the professionals who manage them in the community.
